How to Reverse Acidosis

Acidosis can be reversed by changing your pH from acidic to alkaline. If ignored, chronic health issues will occur such as respiratory failure, kidney failure, organ failure and cancer.

Dr Otto Warburg (1883-1970) was a German chemist who discovered that cancer is caused by the lack of oxygen in the cells and cannot survive if the body’s pH level is alkaline (cancer cells thrive in acidic conditions).

  • Acidic pH means the body is low on oxygen
  • Alkaline pH means the body is loaded with oxygen

Water, Oxygen and pH

Did you know that we are born with 75-78% water in our bodies? Water carries oxygen to our cells, tissues, and organs through the blood. Drinking pure water and eating foods high in water will help the body stay alkaline. Water also hydrates the skin, flushes out toxins, and regulates body temperature.

I first started testing my pH back in the early 1990’s because of health issues and can say from experience that it’s very effective. Click here to learn how to test your pH at home.

What Causes Acidosis

Too much acid in the blood causes acidosis. Here are the most common causes of an acidic blood:

Soda, coffee and alcohol are very dehydrating. Drinking pure water and fresh raw fruit and veggie juices will not only hydrate your body but add needed nutrients. Fruits and veggies are high in water content and will help reverse the symptoms of acidosis.

Drug Abuse

Prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs can help in emergency situations but will add to the acidic condition of your body. Most contain acid-forming aspartame, artificial flavorings and caffeine. Here is a huge list of FDA approved inactive ingredients in drugs

Eating Fast and not Chewing

Get into the habit of chewing your food thoroughly. Chewing is the first step of digestion (food mixes with saliva) and signals your pancreas to release digestive enzymes. Your stomach will thank you.

Eating Late At Night

Your body needs a break from digesting food and I recommend 12 hour fasts each day. If you eat your last meal or snack around 7:00 pm, then don’t eat again until 7:00 am. Drink water or herbal tea before bed. This is a powerful habit to get into that will help heal your body quicker.

Eating Too Much Acidic Foods

Acidic foods have a low pH level and will not help reverse acidosis. Eliminate or limit the following from your diet:

  • dairy products (milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, ice cream)
  • flour products (bread, pasta, pastries)
  • fried food
  • meats
  • microwavable food
  • processed food that is packaged, canned or boxed
  • refined sugar (soda, sweets)

Environmental Toxins

Environmental toxins are cancer-causing chemicals and endocrine disruptors, both human-made and naturally occurring, that can harm our health by disrupting sensitive biological systems. Here is an excellent article that goes into depth Environmental Toxins: How to Protect Yourself and Your Family

Lack of Exercise

Get up, get moving, and get oxygen into your body!

Lack of Oxygen

Smoking cigarettes is highly acidic to your body. The carbon monoxide inhaled from cigarettes decreases the amount of oxygen in the body. Processed foods contain very little water and oxygen. Eating fresh raw fruits and vegetables that are high in water content, will supply the body with oxygen, and help keep you alkaline.

Excess food consumed in relation to the energy that we burn leads to weight gain and often obesity. Overeating makes it harder to breathe and the result is a lack of oxygen in the body (acidosis).

Reverse Acidosis With Alkaline Foods

There are many alkaline food charts online and in books. They slightly differ on what is acidic and alkaline foods. I only know what works for me and that is eating fresh whole fruits and veggies the whole day except one meal and I try to make it light and healthy. I try to stay away from drive-thru restaurants, fried food, and overly processed packaged food.

Your body is use to the acidic tasting foods and will need time to adjust to the alkaline tasting foods. The more alkaline foods you eat, the more your body will crave them (just like how you crave acidic food).
